JAMB: Female UTME Candidate Refuses to Attempt Exam, Awaits ‘Miraculous Intervention

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has explained how a female candidate in the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) refused to attempt any question due to superstition.

According to the examination body, the candidate acted on her grandfather’s instruction to await a ‘miraculous intervention’ rather than attempting the examination.

This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

Although JAMB stated that the incident occurred on Saturday, April 26, it did not reveal the candidate’s name, state, or the Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre where it took place.

Benjamin said”On a lighter note, another dimension of gullibility was exhibited by a female UTME candidate who refused to attempt any question during her examination this morning because she was complying with her grandfather’s instruction to do nothing at the examination but wait for miraculous intervention.

Of course, such miracles do not happen with JAMB.”He advised candidates to shun superstitions and avoid harboring baseless hopes of succeeding without effort.

The incident highlights the influence of superstition on educational pursuits and underscores the potential consequences of prioritizing belief over preparation and hard work in academic endeavors.
